Robert "Bob" Boucher (born June 12, 1943 in Halifax ) is a former Canadian speed skater and cyclist who participated in both disciplines in the Olympic Games.

career

Boucher trained in parallel on the bike and on the ice from the late 1950s. At the national level he was particularly successful in speed skating: in 1966 he became Canadian champion in Winnipeg , one year later he represented the province of Manitoba at the Canada Games , which were held for the first time, and won the gold medal. The peak of his career experienced Boucher 1968. As the first Canadian athlete, he took both the Olympic Games in the winter - in Grenoble - and in the summer - in Mexico City - part. In the run-up to the Winter Games, he was the first Canadian to run the 500-meter sprint distance in Davos under 40 seconds. In Grenoble, he met the later Olympic champion Erhard Keller at exactly this distance and ultimately finished 25th as the best athlete in his country. At the competitions in Mexico six months later, he competed in the track bike sprint and was eliminated in the first round.

Described as "calm, humble, and [...] goal-oriented," Boucher was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 for his speed skating successes and especially for the work he had put into the sport . At the local level, he was also active as a speed skating trainer.
