R. Clark Jones
Robert Clark Jones (born June 30, 1916 in Toledo , † April 26, 2004 ) was an American physicist and worked in the field of optics .
Jones graduated from Harvard University and received his PhD in 1941. Until 1944 he worked at Bell Labs , then until 1982 at Polaroid .
In a series of publications between 1941 and 1956 he worked out a mathematical method for describing polarized light: the Jones vectors .
