Robert "Bob" Collier (born April 19, 1885 in St. Louis , Missouri , † 1950 ) was an American writer of self-help books and motivational books in the field of the New Spirit movement .

Life

His mother died when he was a child. His father worked as a foreign reporter for the "Colliers-Magazin", which was published by his uncle, Peter F. Collier.

Collier attended a religious school and was supposed to be a priest . But he decided against the life as a clergyman and went to West Virginia to seek his fortune there. There he worked as a mining engineer and learned how to remain human despite the difficulties of life. He read the books in the mining office. Among them were books such as “Angewandte Handelskorrespondenz” and marketing advice, which laid the foundation for his later career as a book author.

After eight years in Virginia, he went to New York City , where he worked in the advertising department of PF Collier-Verlag. With the help of experts like Bruce Barton and Fred Stone, he developed ideas for promoting sales and tested them in promotional circulars to key business people.

The results have been overwhelming. He sold several thousand copies of the Harvard Classics - a series of books by Dr. Elliot - advertising the O. Henry stories earned him over two million dollars in orders. The publisher received 70,000 orders for The History of the World War .

Due to an illness that he defeated with the help of the Christian Science Church , he dealt with the topic of health. He believed that 98 percent of diseases came from chemically treated and contaminated food. Based on his own experience, he wanted to find out how seemingly incurable diseases can be conquered quickly and safely just by thinking.

He decided it was possible - and tried to find a way. He dealt with the metaphysical, the occult and success stories. Then he started writing books on practical psychology. The books "The Secret of the Ages" were created, of which he sold around 300,000. He wrote four other books, which he later summarized in the book "Riches Within Your Reach". He offset the seven books in the series "The Book of Life" into one book.

Robert Collier is one of the first authors of self-help . He was considered a role model for Napoleon Hill , Anthony Robbins and Claude M. Bristol . He is often quoted in the film and book The Secret .
