As a ten-time great-grandson, Robert Daniell was a descendant of the English King Edward III. In 1669 he came to what was then the Province of Carolina , where he joined the political group of the Goose Greek Men . As a supporter of King Wilhelm III. he served in his armed forces, where he rose over time from captain to colonel. Later he made it to lieutenant general. In 1702 he took part in the ultimately unsuccessful campaign under Governor James Moore against the Spanish colony of Florida , including the failed siege of the fortress Castillo de San Marcos . In the following years he was also involved in other military conflicts in the area of ​​the Carolina colonies. These included the Tuscarora War (1711–1715) and the Yamasee War . In the years 1704 and 1705 he was Deputy Governor (Deputy Governor) for the northern part of the Province of Carolina, today's US state North Carolina , responsible. There he had already been a member of the colonial parliament in 1708. In 1716 and 1717 he was the successor of Charles Craven Governor of the Province of South Carolina. He died on May 1, 1718 on his estate on Daniel Island, which was named after him and is now part of Charleston.
