Bob Dunbar

Robert H. Dunbar (* 1859 in Pictou , Nova Scotia ; † June 1937 ) was a Canadian curler . He was considered one of the best curlers in Canada and the United States in his day .

Dunbar came to Winnipeg in the 1870s . There he worked for a hotel not far from the Thistle Curling Club . In his free time he learned the sport of curling there. He developed into a top player in the 1890s and won numerous competitions as the skip of the Thistle Curling Club . In 1901 he went to Minnesota , where he worked successfully for the Capitol City Curling Club and St. Paul Curling Club and later played in Eveleth . Between 1910 and 1924 he and his teams were seven times Minnesota State Men's Bonspiel Champion .

He was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 . Dunbar had a son (Robert G. "Bob" Dunbar, Jr.) with whom he played on a team at times.
