Robert Eduard Julius Mestern

Robert Eduard Julius Mestern (born August 15, 1848 in Hamburg ; † January 2, 1892 in Alexandria ) was a Hamburg merchant and member of parliament.

Life

Mestern completed a commercial apprenticeship at A. Tesdorpf & Co. in Hamburg, which was managed by Adolph Tesdorpf . He was appointed authorized signatory in September 1866. In July 1870 Mestern became a partner and after Adolph Tesdorpf retired in 1876, Mestern became the owner of the company.

Mestern belonged to the supervisory board of the Vereinsbank Hamburg from 1885 to 1892 . For a time Mestern was also a member of the supervisory boards of the German Levante Line and the Hamburg-American Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft . Mestern was part of the board of directors of the North German Insurance Company, a forerunner of the Ergo insurance group . He was also a member of the board of directors of the Lübeck-Büchener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft .

From 1880 on Mestern belonged to the Commerzdeputation , which he headed from 1885 to 1888 as President. Mestern belonged to the Hamburg citizenship from 1874 to 1892 . He joined the faction on the right.

family

The father was the merchant Johann Christian Andreas Mestern (1799-1884), who had emigrated from Altona and ran the grain trading company JCA Mestern in Hamburg, his mother Justine Lisette Wilhelmine Möring (1815-1892). Robert Mestern married Anna Elisabeth Baasch, a sister of Ernst Theodor Baasch , on October 22nd, 1870 .
