Robert Edward Difenderfer

Robert Edward Difenderfer (born June 7, 1849 in Lewisburg , Union County , Pennsylvania , †  April 25, 1923 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1915 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Difenderfer attended the public schools in his home country and then studied dentistry. After his registration as a dentist, he practiced this profession for 14 years in the cities of Lewisburg and Pottsville . He then went to China , where he founded and managed a wool factory in Tianjin . In August 1900 he returned to Pennsylvania and worked there in the timber trade. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1910 congressional elections , Difenderfer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Irving Price Wanger on March 4, 1911 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1915 . During this time the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified.

In 1914, Difenderfer was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In the years 1916 and 1918 he sought again unsuccessfully for the democratic nomination for the respective congressional elections. Otherwise he worked in the confectionery trade, among other things. He died in Philadelphia on April 25, 1923.
