Irving Price Wanger (born March 5, 1852 in North Coventry , Chester County , Pennsylvania , †  January 14, 1940 in Norristown , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1911 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Irving Wanger attended his home public schools and the Hill School in Pottstown . He then worked as a prothonotary for the counties in Chester and Montgomery Counties . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1875, he began to work in Norristown in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1878 he became mayor of Norristown; in June 1880 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago , where James A. Garfield was nominated as a presidential candidate. In 1880 and 1886, Wanger was elected district attorney in Montgomery County, and in 1889 he was Republican Party leader there. A year later he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives.

In the congressional elections of 1892 Wanger was then elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat William Mutchler on March 4, 1893 . After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . During this time, the Spanish-American War of 1898 took place . From 1897 Wanger was chairman of the committee to control the expenditure of the postal ministry. In 1910 he was not re-elected.

After his time in the US House of Representatives Irving Wanger lived in Wilmington ( Delaware ). From 1920 he continued his legal practice in Pennsylvania in the cities of Norristown and Media . He died on January 14, 1940 in Norristown.
