Daniel Ermentrout (born January 24, 1837 in Reading , Pennsylvania , †  September 17, 1899 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1889 and again from 1897 to 1899 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Daniel Ermentrout attended public schools in his home country and then Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster and the Elmwood Institute in Norristown . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1859, he began to work in Reading in this profession. Between 1862 and 1865 he was a district attorney in Berks County . From 1867 to 1870 he was the legal representative of the city of Reading. Between 1868 and 1876 he was also a member of the local school committee. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In the years 1868 and 1880 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions ; from 1895 to 1899 he was also a delegate to all Democratic party conventions at the state level in Pennsylvania. He also served on the Berks County District Committee in 1869, 1872, and 1873. Between 1873 and 1880 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . From 1877 he was also a member of the commission for the revision of the laws of his home state.

In the congressional elections of 1880 , Ermentrout was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Hiester Clymer on March 4, 1881 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1889 . In 1888 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In the elections of 1896 Ermentrout was re-elected to Congress in the ninth district of his state, where he replaced Constantine Jacob Erdman on March 4, 1897 . After being re-elected, he was able to exercise this mandate until his death on September 17, 1899. During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell .
