Life

When Robert Emanuel Schmidt joined the paint factories in 1887, he was researching alizarin paints, which were initially a domain of BASF in Ludwigshafen am Rhein .

Just two years later he discovered the first blue alizarin dye and thus brought the paint factories the first patent in the alizarin field. A scientific competition began between Robert Emanuel Schmidt and his competitor René Bohn in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, the two “masters of dye research”, which became important for the further development of the German paint industry.

In 1906 Robert Emanuel Schmidt became deputy director and in 1912 a member of the board of management of Bayer AG . In 1920, however, he went back to the research laboratory to pursue his scientific passion. In 1926 he received the Liebig Memorial Medal from the Association of German Chemists .

He lived in the Schmidt villa .
