Robert Friedrich Metzeler

Robert Friedrich Metzeler (born May 10, 1833 in Memmingen , † July 16, 1910 in Munich ) was a German entrepreneur .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Metzeler worked, among other things, in a chemical factory in Brussels , from 1857 as an accountant in a perfumery factory and store in Munich, and in 1863 he started his own rubber goods store . In 1871 he received approval to build a factory for the production of rubber goods and founded the OHG Metzeler & Co. in Munich. New technical processes have made it possible to produce air cushions since 1877.

In 1883 Metzeler set up the first asbestos spinning mill in Germany, built the actual main factory in 1887, in which fabrics for balloon and airship construction were manufactured, and manufactured bicycle tires since 1890 and solid rubber tires for trucks and buses since 1907 . In 1901 he converted the company into a stock corporation and joined the supervisory board, while his two sons formed the executive board.
