Robert Gattinger (born March 21, 1902 in Stainach , † December 10, 1980 in Pöls ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

Robert Gattinger was born in Stainach im Ennstal. His father was an opera singer and his mother was a postmaster and innkeeper. After working in the hotel fabric and doing a secondary artistic degree, he completed a three-year private study with Konstantin Damianos in Graz. He also attended the state art school and fresco master school under Julius Wegerer, Alfred Wickenburg and Fritz Silberbauer. During this time he made several study trips to Italy, Yugoslavia and Bavaria. He was a member of the Graz Artists' Union and the professional association of visual artists .

Services

Gattinger had been working as a freelance artist in Pöls, at that time still Pöls ob Judenburg, since 1948. Since 1949 he has devoted himself to work as a restorer on behalf of the state conservator . A large number of frescoes and sgraffits were worked on by him. The "Altsteirerwirt" as well as numerous Raiffeisenkassen underlined his artistic activity and his artistic work. Numerous oil paintings (landscapes, still lifes, figural compositions and portraits), watercolors , gouaches , tempera and dispersion paintings , but also the occupation with peasant furniture and folk art (restoration and repainting), as well as the reverse glass painting (from 1964 the picture “Martyrdom of St. . Nepomuk ”for the renewed Nepomuk Chapel in Pöls) represent his artistic expression and his versatility. In 1945, Robert Gattinger uncovered and added to the Gothic frescoes in the choir of the Schöder parish church . In 1946 he restored the St. George's picture (oil on wood) in the Jägerkapelle in Schöder, painted the new panels of the fourteen Stations of the Cross of the Calvary in Murau in the Styrian commemorative year 1959 and received a certificate of recognition from the state government.
