Robert Geisser
Robert Geisser (born March 24, 1920 in Herisau ; † September 8, 1995 in St. Gallen ) was a Swiss graphic artist . He created posters , logos and illustrations for newspapers, publishers and books.
biography
Geisser grew up in St. Gallen . He completed an apprenticeship as a flag and parament draftsman . He then trained as a graphic designer at the St. Gallen trade school. After working in the embroidery industry, he worked for the paper industry. He designed letterheads and advertised stationery items . In 1957 he opened his own studio in St. Gallen. He was active in the Political Action Pro St. Gallen (later called Forum Pro St. Gallen ). He represented various concerns for a humane city with the help of drawings and caricatures etc. a. in the St. Galler Anzeiger and in Eastern Switzerland . He also suggested early on that a game of Gallus should be performed in the open air in the monastery courtyard . This happened for the first time in 1960. In 1966 he decided not to advertise for consumer goods anymore, but only for institutions and ideas. Geisser made sure that at the OLMA Swiss Exhibition for Agriculture and Food in 1949 the flag of the new canton of Jura, which was only founded in 1979, waved alongside the 25 flags of all other cantons in Switzerland. Thereupon there was an official protest by the canton of Bern, to which the region of the later canton of Jura belonged at that time.
His wife Monika Neracher also worked creatively as a draftsman and potter .
Works
Geisser was best known for posters for the OLMA and for advertising the city of St. Gallen and the Lake Constance region. The book illustrations include, for example, drawings in books such as Aadlech to zibölele and The mountains are calling. Further references to many of the posters created by Geisser are listed online. Also signets for companies among his creations. The Geisser bee logo for banks is one of a small international selection of the best from thousands of logos.
