Robert Graessle , occasionally also Robert Graessle or Robert Graeßle , (born January 19, 1887 , † March 1964 in Heilbronn ) was a German stonemason and sculptor. He worked mainly in Heilbronn.

Life

Grässle completed his training as a wood sculptor and expanded his field of work to include stone sculptures. He then trained as a modeller in Munich and then studied at the Stuttgart School of Applied Arts . From 1911 he worked as a freelance sculptor in Heilbronn and first had a studio at Fleiner Strasse 9 and then at Wollhausstrasse 127/1. Grässle was a founding member of the Heilbronn Artists' Association and became an honorary member in 1962.

Works (selection)

Grässle was involved in the creation of numerous tombs and monuments in Heilbronn and the surrounding area, including the war memorial in Flein, the memorial in Untergruppenbach (Crailsheimer Muschelkalk, 1927) and the war memorial in Obereisesheim . He also made the grape fountain based on a design by Maria Fitzen-Wohnsiedler , which stood on Uhlandplatz in Heilbronn until the redesign in spring 2016.

He also made numerous copies and replicas of works in Heilbronn, including a replica of the wayside shrine on Armsündersteige from 1514 and a gargoyle on the tower of Kilian's Church as well as two masked heads, which he recreated for the Old Theater based on old models. After a restoration by the Talheimer stonemason Thomas Rücker in September 2012, they were placed on the terrace of the Heilbronn city theater next to the original masked heads of Karl Gimmi .

Several works are now in the House of City History in the Heilbronn City Archives , including the bozzetto for the nail figure "Eisenhart" based on a design by Josef Michael Lock and a copy of a sculpture group of the Annunciation from the Heilbronn Klarakloster .
