Robert Greacen

Robert Greacen (born October 24, 1920 in Derry , Northern Ireland , † April 13, 2008 in Dublin , Ireland ) was an Irish poet and essayist .

Robert Greacen grew up in Belfast and County Monaghan . After attending the Methodist School in Belfast, he studied at Trinity College in Dublin. He published his first poems and essays while still a student.

After graduating, he lived in London for many years and worked as a journalist and in adult education. In 1949 he was editor of the “Faber Book of Contemporary Poetry” together with Valentin Iremonger. He was a member of Aosdána , an Irish artists' association limited to 250 members.

Robert Greacen was awarded the " Irish Times Literature Prize For Poetry" in 1995 for his Collected Poems 1944–1994 .
