Robert Hanhart

Robert Hanhart (born July 6, 1925 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss Protestant theologian . He is particularly concerned with the transmission of the Septuagint .

Hanhart first studied classical philology and history in Basel . After his doctorate as Dr. phil. hist. (1954) he initially worked for a year on the Middle Latin dictionary . He then moved to the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen , where he worked as a research assistant at the Septuagint company . In 1961 he was appointed head of the department. In 1962 he was at the University of Goettingen to the Dr. theol. PhD.

During his more than 30 years of activity, Hanhart supervised numerous volumes of the Septuagint company and also published several publications himself. His edition of the book Esther was accepted as a habilitation thesis in 1965 ; In 1967 Hanhart was appointed adjunct professor for the Old Testament. For his services to Septuagint research, he received honorary doctorates from the universities of Bologna and Helsinki . Even after his retirement (1993) Hanhart remained active as a volunteer and member of the management committee for the project.
