Robert John Wilson Douglas

Robert John Wilson Douglas , mostly quoted by RJW Douglas , (* 1920 ; † 1979 ) was a Canadian geologist ( petroleum geology , sedimentology , stratigraphy , tectonics ).

Douglas studied geology and mineralogy at Queen's University (Kingston) and received his PhD from Columbia University . He then worked for the Geological Survey of Canada .

He explored the tectonics of the Canadian Rockies. His study of the stratigraphy of the limestones of the Mississippian in southern Alberta was important for the oil exploration there.

He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada , received the Willet G. Miller Medal in 1965 and the Logan Medal in 1976 .

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Geologists has been awarding the RJW Douglas Medal in his honor since 1980.
