Robert Circle
Robert Kreis (born May 10, 1949 in Bandung , Indonesia ) is a Dutch cabaret artist , pianist and entertainer .
Kreis is considered to be one of the fathers of the 1920s retro wave that emerged in the 1980s, whose protagonists include the Berlin artists Max Raabe and Henry de Winter . His Menjou mustache is his trademark.
Life
Inspired by his family - his grandmother was a jazz pianist and band leader of a women's band - Kreis learned to play the piano at an early age. In the Netherlands he graduated from high school, then he went as a steward on cruise ships, from which his first appearances resulted. In a cabaret school he finally found his current artistic activity and since 1980 has dedicated himself to the entertainment era of the 1920s and 1930s with solo and orchestral programs. He finds inspiration in his extensive collection of contemporary shellac records , sheet music and literature. Robert Kreis has lived in Berlin since 2008.
Stage programs
With programs such as Jubilee , Das frivole Grammophon , Verehrt, pursued forgotten and Robert Kreis and his jazz sextants , Robert Kreis has been mainly at home on German-speaking stages since 1981, but occasionally also makes guest appearances in other European countries or in New York, where he is was able to present his arts at a cultural festival in the Hotel The New Yorker.
- The program Revered, Persecuted, Forgotten is a reminder of the numerous Jewish artists whom National Socialism silenced.
- The program Das frivole Grammophon is all about “one thing” with a lot of linguistic humor: sexuality, eroticism and passion.
- With the ironic program title Rosige Zeiten! he celebrates his 30th stage anniversary in Germany and lets such great small artists from the Weimar period as Otto Reutter and others shine in their own spotlight.
Film appearance
In 2001, Robert Kreis had a brief appearance in the film Sass : As a conférencier , he offered the Berlin tank cracker brothers Franz and Erich Sass the box office on the grounds that they would get it anyway.
