action

The brothers Franz and Erich Sass grow up in poor circumstances. Erich and his brother Franz specialize in cracking safes. Erich spends the money with full hands. The police have now also become aware of the brothers. Pursued by the criminal secretary Fabich, they get deeper and deeper into criminal circles. A man named Adolf demands that the Sass brothers work for him. He blackmailed her and had her father beaten to death. The brothers then agree to work together. Adolf, however, plans to have the two killed after the coup. The two brothers can save themselves; They can also flee from the police, who find out about them while they are breaking into the bank.

Then they go into hiding in Venice and obtain false passports. Sonja Weiss, whom Franz had already fallen in love with in Berlin, visits them. Sonja's husband Leon appears in Venice and sympathizes with the brothers. The brothers are planning another raid on the discount bank. Criminal Secretary Fabich tries to dissuade Franz from the robbery. However, the brothers are not dissuaded from their plan and dig a tunnel to the vault. The police find out about the activities and flood the tunnel with water, so that the brothers almost drown. Franz and Erich do not give up and get into the vault, where they make rich booty. The very next morning they flee.

They are charged but acquitted for lack of evidence. Sonja has overcome the grief for her deceased husband and comes closer to Franz again. Together they plan to flee to the USA. While planning, the two brothers are shot by Nazis . Erich dies immediately. Fabich comes and looks at Franz, who gives him a bill before he dies too. Fabich opens the safe deposit box, in it is most of the loot. Fabich meets with Sonja and gives her the money. Before that, he took a part and then fled to Denmark.

criticism

The lexicon of international film ruled that “ the uninspired style ” of the film was not “ outweighed by the expensive equipment and the quite respectable performance […] ”. The " voice-over " is also " clumsy used" and " between aspiration and implementation " of the film "gaping a crack that can tilt the film into the trash Representative. "

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.

Trivia

Otto Sander was the stepfather of Ben Becker, in the film they play father and son.
