Robert Kuok

Robert Kuok ( Chinese  郭 鶴 年  /  郭 鹤 年 , Pinyin Guō Hènián ; born October 6, 1923 in Johor Bahru , Johor ) is a Malaysian entrepreneur .

Life

Kuok is of Chinese origin. He studied at the Raffles Institution in Singapore . According to US Forbes Magazine , Kuok is the richest Malay.

He controls the company Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and Perlis Plantations , which extracts sugar from sugar cane . He holds significant shares in Wilmar International , a company that produces palm oil and is run by his nephew Kuok Khoon Hong . He also controlled the South China Morning Post newspaper . Kuok lives in Hong Kong , is married and has eight children.
