Robert Lafont

Robert Lafont (born March 16, 1923 in Nîmes , † June 24, 2009 in Florence ) was a French author and university professor.

Life

He was co-founder and temporarily chairman of the Institut d'Estudis Occitans . He taught as a professor of linguistics at the Université Montpellier III . In addition to literary works in Occitan , he wrote numerous French-language books in which he turned against the political and cultural centralism of France and represented regionalist positions. In contrast to Jean-François Gravier , who for economic reasons called for decentralization, Lafont represented an ethnic regionalism. In 1974 he announced that he would run for the office of French President as a “minority candidate” , but was unable to put this project into practice. In 1976 he was awarded the Ossian Prize of the FVS Foundation.
