Robert Laugs

Robert Laugs (born February 21, 1875 in Saarbrücken , † January 9, 1942 in Kassel ) was a German conductor and Kapellmeister .

Laugs studied at the Cologne Conservatory from 1892 to 1896 ; he then led the training classes there.

In 1903 he became the conductor of the concert company in Hagen and founded the city music school there. From 1907 he directed the concerts of the royal chapel in Berlin for a few years and in 1913 became conductor at the Royal Opera Unter den Linden.

In 1914 he became the leading Kapellmeister at the State Theater in Kassel. He held this post until his death in 1942.

From 1922 to 1933 he directed the Kassel A-Cappella Choir , until 1941 he directed the Kassel State Theater Orchestra.

Laugs was chairman of the music committee in the German Singers Association . In 1927 he was supported by the University of Marburg Dr. appointed hc.

His son was the conductor and pianist Richard Laugs .
