Robert Maxwell, 4th Earl of Nithsdale

Robert Maxwell, 4th Earl of Nithsdale ( January 1628 , † before March 23, 1683 in Edinburgh ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was John Maxwell, 3rd Earl of Nithsdale ; his mother was Elisabeth Gordon, a sister of John Gordon, 1st Viscount of Kenmure . When his father died in 1677, he inherited his nobility titles as 4th Earl of Nithsdale , 12th Lord Maxwell and 8th Lord Herries of Terregles .

By his marriage, on March 25, 1669, to Lucy Douglas, daughter of William Douglas, 1st Marquess of Douglas , he had a son; William (who later became 5th Earl) and two daughters; Mary and Anne.
