Robert Misch

Robert Misch (born February 6, 1860 in Zarczyn near Bromberg , † November 27, 1929 in Berlin ) was a German librettist and writer .

Life

As the son of a manor owner, he attended the French high school in Berlin and an alumni in Braunschweig, and from 1877 the Friedrichswerder trade school. After he had written his first tragedy ("Tarquinius Superbus"), which the Hamburg City Theater had declared impossible to perform, but talented, he decided to devote himself to poetic activity. In order to gain experience, he first turned to acting for three years and played at various stations (Halberstadt, Rudolstadt, Potsdam, St. Gallen, Amsterdam). Then he studied history, philosophy and literature in Munich. In 1887 he joined the editorial team of the Wiesbadener Tagblatt as an art critic . In 1890 he returned to Berlin and settled down as a freelance writer. He wrote numerous novels, short stories and plays. Misch's best-known works are the libretti for the two Humperdinck operas Die Sutlerin and Gaudemus .

Since 1886 he was born with Margarete (Mary) Misch. Kastner (1858–1924) married, who also worked as a writer. Among other things , she published the novels Baronin Fify (Leipzig 1897) and Annemarie (Berlin 1904). Both graves are located in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
