Robert Navarro (born May 1, 1952 in Cuxac-d'Aude ) is a French politician formerly of the Parti socialiste , now an independent leftist.

Life

Navarro has been a member of the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Council since 2008 ; From 2010 to 2014 he was the first vice-president there and in 2014 managed the business on an interim basis after the death of the regional council president Christian Bourquin . From 2001 to 2004 Navarro was a member of the Montpellier City Council .

From 2004 to 2008 Navarro was a member of the European Parliament . Since October 1st, 2008 he has been a Senator in the Senate for the Hérault department .

Navarro was a member of the Parti socialiste and first secretary of the party in the Hérault department. In the regional elections in 2010, he ran on the list of Georges Frêche, who had previously been excluded from the PS, and was therefore also excluded from the PS. However, he was still a member of the PS parliamentary group in the Senate and continued to lead the PS parliamentary group in the Languedoc-Roussillon regional council. In April 2011, the PS filed a complaint against Navarro for breach of trust , including for private travel billed, including for family members. In March 2012, the Senate lifted Navarro's immunity.

Navarro himself supported François Hollande in the PS primaries and in the 2012 presidential election .

After his re-election to the Senate in 2014, Navarro did not rejoin the PS parliamentary group, but is now an independent senator. When the socialist faction was regrouped in the regional council in the run-up to the election of the regional council president Damien Alary in September 2014, he lost its membership and was never again vice-president of the regional council.
