Robert Prohl

Robert Prohl (* 1952 ) is a German sports scientist , university professor and alternative practitioner .

Life

After studying to be a teacher in sports and English, which he completed in 1981 with the second state examination, Prohl was a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1981 to 1990 . In 1986 he obtained his doctorate and completed his habilitation in 1990. Subsequently, Prohl was from 1991 professor for sports science at the University of Erfurt and from 1999 professor for sports education at the Institute for Sports Science in Frankfurt's Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. During his term of office in Frankfurt, Prohl was Dean of Studies for the Department of Psychology and Sports Science from 2001 to 2005 . He held a chair in Frankfurt until 2018 and then remained in teaching as a senior professor.

The focus of his work in sports science was on the theoretical foundations of sports pedagogy, physical education, physical education in preschool age and the pedagogy of competitive sports. Together with Volker Scheid , he is the editor of the textbook series “Kursbuch Sport”, which has appeared in several volumes. He summarized the status of sports education up to 2010 in the monograph Grundriss der Sportpädagogik .

While he was still in service as a professor, Prohl completed an apprenticeship as an alternative practitioner , namely from 2012 to 2014. In the following years, he took part in several advanced training courses in this field and worked as a professional alternative practitioner.
