Volker Scheid

Volker Scheid (* 1959 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Scheid graduated from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main with a teaching degree in the subjects of sport, German and education. From 1984 to 1989 he worked at the Institute for Sport Science at the Frankfurt University as a research assistant and during this time, namely in 1988, he submitted his doctoral thesis entitled “Motor Development in Childhood”.

From 1989 to 1994 Scheid was employed as an academic advisor at the Institute for Sports Science at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , where he completed his habilitation in 1994 (subject: “Integration through Sport”). In 1994 he took up a professorship for sports science at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and headed the work area sports education, sports sociology and sports history. In 1999 Scheid left Freiburg for the University of Kassel , where he took on a professorship for sports science with a focus on sports education and became head of the “Education and Teaching” department at the Institute for Sports and Sports Science. From 2001 to 2004 Scheid was Dean of Studies and Dean of the Department of Psychology, Sports Science and Music at the University of Kassel.

Scheid was a member of the school sports committee of the German Sports Association from 1999 to 2002 and of the school committee of the Bavarian State Sports Association between 1992 and 1996 . From 2009 to 2013 he was a board member of the German Association for Sports Science .

The focus of his scientific work is on the subject areas of sport in schools, kindergartens and clubs, physical education, integration and disabled sports. Together with Robert Prohl, he is the editor of the textbook series “Kursbuch Sport”, which was published in the volumes movement theory, training theory, sport biology and sport and society.
