Robert Rathke

Robert Rathke (born July 29, 1910 in Leipzig ; † February 7, 1987 ) was a German actor on the stage, television and radio.

Live and act

Robert Rathke (full name: Robert Hans Walther Theodor Rathke), who grew up on his father's banana plantation in Samoa until he was six, received his acting training in Leipzig from Lina Carstens . The two got to know each other in a Leipzig bookshop during a Carstens reading. Robert Rathke was employed there after completing his apprenticeship as a bookseller.

This was followed by theater engagements in Halle and Breslau from the mid-1930s, after the war at the Unterländer Volksbühne as well as at the Landestheater Esslingen and the Stadttheater Aachen. From 1954 until his retirement in 1975 he had a permanent job as a (radio) speaker and (television) actor at what was then Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden. At the same time, the SWF actors were contractually obliged to accept two engagements per season at the Baden-Baden City Theater free of charge. His most famous radio play "The man with the little dog" based on Georges Simenon in the text version by Gert Westphal and directed by Peterpaul Schulz was also produced on Südwestfunk in the 1960s. Robert Rathke played in television plays of the Südwestfunk and most of the other ARD and ZDF radio and television companies - initially mainly in implementations of literary models or well-known plays such as "Emilia Galotti", "Baron Münchhausen", "Visiting the old lady", "The good." People from Sezuan "or" The Physicists "- mostly important supporting roles and" batches "of all kinds. When he turns 65, his track disappears, especially when it comes to television and film roles.

He played his only film role under the direction of Fritz Umgelter in the first Jerry Cotton film: "Shots from the violin case". Here he embodied the somewhat retarded gangster "Latschek", who carries his machine gun in his violin case. At that time already very successful with 2.5 million viewers at the box office, the first Jerry Cotton film still has cult status today, also because of the film music by Peter Thomas. Until 1986, Robert Rathke was occasionally a guest in radio play productions. Especially here and on television, he worked with a large number of well-known directors: Tom Toelle, Michael Hanecke, Fritz Umgelter, Peter Schulze Rohr, Gert Westphal u. v. a.
