Robert S. McMillan

Robert Scott McMillan (born February 26, 1950 in Pittsburgh ) is an American astronomer and asteroid explorer, who received his doctorate in 1977 from the University of Texas at Austin .

He works at the University of Arizona in Tucson , where he has been heading the Spacewatch project for observing asteroids and comets since 1997 . He made several discoveries, among which the asteroid (20,000) Varuna is particularly noteworthy.

On October 19, 2008, he succeeded in discovering the short-period comet 208P / McMillan .

The asteroid (2289) McMillan was named after him.
