Robert Schär
Robert Schär (born February 5, 1894 in Steffisburg ; † February 2, 1973 ibid) was a Swiss painter and glass painter .
Life
After an apprenticeship as a ceramic painter, Schär attended the technical center in Freiburg . He then studied in Munich and at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. Receiving the Federal Art Scholarship in 1927 allowed him to travel to Florence and southern France. Schär was a member of the Museum Commission of the Castle Museum in Thun Castle for more than 30 years and had a significant influence on the exhibition design there. Schär maintained regular contact with Max von Mühlenen in Bern and sent his most talented students to him. One of them was the Thun painter and graphic artist Knud Jacobsen .

Schär designed many glass windows in school buildings, private apartments and churches, for example in the Reformed Churches in Möriken , Reutigen , Wabern and Vinelz , in the village church of Steffisburg or in the Thun crematorium . His most important work are the large glass windows in the Nydegg Church in Bern. During the restoration in 1955, he was commissioned to design the four choir windows. The work carried out in 1957 and 1958 shows the four evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Schär also made drawings, illustrations and paintings. He exhibited his painterly work at various exhibitions in the Thun Art Museum .
