Robert von Schlumberger, knight and noble von Goldeck (born August 27, 1850 in Vöslau ; † January 12, 1939 in Vienna ) was an Austrian winery owner.

Life

Robert Schlumberger von Goldeck was born as the third son of the Austrian sparkling wine manufacturer Robert Alwin Schlumberger von Goldeck . At the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn he first studied law and later chemistry . In 1870 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Bonn . After graduating as Dr. phil. he returned to Austria and joined his father's company, the Schlumberger Sektkellerei . After the death of his father, the company was split up as a general partnership between him and his brothers Otto and Gustav. Robert took over the management of the farm.

Robert Schlumberger von Goldeck was chairman of the viticulture section of the kk Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft. By breeding hybrid grape varieties that are resistant to phylloxera from Austrian noble varieties and American rootstocks, he made a significant contribution to the biotechnological control of the damage caused by phylloxera in Austria . He also emerged through the organization of the frost defenses in Lower Austria .
