Robert Tournier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Tournier (born February 28, 1927 - October 17, 2014 ) was a French activist of the Franco-German reconciliation movement after the Second World War . In recognition of his work, he received honorary citizenship of the German cities of Weingarten (Württemberg) and Grimma .

Life

Robert Tournier was committed to reconciliation and international understanding between the French and Germans after the Second World War .

During the establishment of the town twinning between Bron and Weingarten in 1963, Tournier demanded not to forget the other part of Germany, the GDR , and to seek contact for a town twinning with a town there. That was the prelude to the fact that the official friendship and partnership agreement between Grimma and Bron could be concluded on October 7, 1971.

It is thanks to Robert Tournier that the partnership agreement was not terminated in the following years until 1989. As district secretary for town twinning, he helped to build up further town twinning with towns in the GDR district of Leipzig .

At the time of the peaceful revolution in 1989, he campaigned for a three-city partnership with Grimma in the twin town of Weingarten. Thanks to the tournament, there has been a lively student exchange between the two cities since 1992.

Award

In 1993, Tournier was made an honorary citizen of the twin town Weingarten . On October 4, 1996, the city of Grimma honored and thanked Robert Tournier on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the city partnership Grimma-Bron with the honorary citizenship of the city of Grimma.

Varia

The three-city partnership suggested by Tournier was the subject of a student project at the St. Augustin grammar school in Grimma: The students Carolin Reichel, Charlene Thäsler and Anne-Marlen Gäbler (and initially Sophie-Therese Werrmann) examined in their work entitled “Ménage -à-trois - Neighborhood to Three ” , which was supervised by the history teacher Herma Lautenschläger, the story of the triangular town partnership between the Saxon city of Grimma, the Baden-Württemberg vineyard and the French Bron. They were able to prove that the partnerships between Grimma and Weingarten and Bron set the course for the Franco-German friendship . The results of this work, which was honored at the 23rd  history competition of the Federal President , are a traveling exhibition that has been on view so far (2014) in Weingarten and Bron, as well as a brochure entitled “Ménage-à-trois” - Is at one Friendship for three not one too many? .
