Robert Triffin

Robert Triffin (born October 5, 1911 in Flobecq , † February 23, 1993 in Ostend ) was a Belgian - American economist .

Life

In 1935 Triffin moved to the United States .

In 1959 , Triffin drew attention to a design flaw in the Bretton Woods system known as the Triffin Dilemma .

He dealt with the European Monetary Union and saw less economic than political problems when it came into being.

The use of the cross price elasticity as an indicator of the strength of competing companies goes back to him, and is then also called the Triffinian coefficient .

In 1963 Triffin was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
