Robert Wengels
Robert Wengels (* 1850 ; † August 15, 1930 in Berlin ) was a German social democratic politician.
Life
Wengels was a trained hosiery worker . He was involved in the SPD . He was married to Margarete Wengels , who was also active in the party (called "Mother Wengels"). From 1895 he was the forwarding agent of the Vorwärts . Between 1901 and 1914 he was a member of the central party executive. Between 1904 and 1908 and again in 1913 he was a city councilor in Berlin . He was a member of the Civil Engineering Deputation. During the First World War he approached the USPD . In January 1917, the party executive asked the supporters of the inner-party opposition to leave the party. Luise Zietz and Wengels refused. Thereupon the party leadership refused any further cooperation with them. In April of the same year he was elected to the USPD's Action Committee. In the same year he belonged to the USPD delegation to the Socialist Congress in Stockholm, along with Oskar Cohn , Georg Ledebour and others . In 1919 he was elected to the board of directors of the USPD. He also belonged to this in the following years. After merging with the MSPD , he was again a member of the board in 1922. He was buried with his wife in the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery in the Socialist Memorial .
