Robert Yerburgh, 2nd Baron Alvingham

Robert Guy Eardley Yerburgh, 2nd Baron Alvingham , CBE , DL (born December 16, 1926 in Chelsea , London ) is a British soldier , peer and non-party politician .

life and career

Yerburgh was born on December 16, 1926 to Robert Yerburgh, 1st Baron Alvingham (1889–1955) and Dorothea Gertrude Yerburgh (1882–1927). He had two older sisters. Yerburgh was baptized in Knightsbridge, London . He attended Eton College .

In 1945 he joined the Coldstream Guards and was commissioned in 1946. He served in Palestine , Tripoli , the Far East Land Forces , South America and the British Army of the Rhine .

From 1972 to 1974 he was a member of the Head Staff of the Chief of Defense Staff . In 1975 he worked at the Royal College of Defense Studies . From 1975 to 1978 he was Deputy Director ( Deputy Director ) of Army Staff Duties . In 1978 he became major-general . From 1978 to 1981 he was director of the Army Quartering MOD

Yerburgh was from 1994 to 2009 patron ( patron ) of the Oxfordshire Company Royal British Legion . He also held this position at the Henley and District Agricultural Association . In 1984, 1988 and 1989 he was President of the Royal Lancashire Agriculture Society .

He lives in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire (as of 1999). He is currently not a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .

Membership in the House of Lords

After his father's death in November 1955, he inherited the title of Baron Alvingham and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . There he sat as a non-party.

During the session from 1997 to 1998, he took the oath, but was otherwise absent.

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for one of the remaining seats.

He is currently not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election. (As of May 2012)

Honors

In 1972 Yerburgh was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and in 1978 he was awarded the Commander rank .

In 1996 he was promoted to DL in Oxfordshire .

family

On March 31, 1952, Yerburgh married Beryl Elliott Williams, the only daughter of William David Williams. They had two children together, including a son and a daughter.
