Roberto Jesús Contreras

Roberto Jesús Contreras (born May 9, 1959 in Monterrey , Nuevo León ), also known by the nickname El Wama , is a retired Mexican football player in the position of goalkeeper .

career

Contreras was under contract with his hometown club CF Monterrey between 1979 and 1990 . It was not until 1984, however, before “El Wama” had developed into his club's regular goalkeeper. In 1987 he lost this post again. But in the intervening time he enjoyed a few triumphs and was voted the best goalkeeper in the history of the Rayados by the Mexican sports newspaper Récord because of his performance during these years .

His most successful season was the Torneo México 86 held immediately before the 1986 World Cup , which replaced the actual 1985/86 season together with the previously held Torneo Prode 85 . First he succeeded on December 14, 1985, the tenth game day of this tournament, a goal. The goal in the 73rd minute of the away game at the Ángeles de Puebla also meant the 1-0 victory of his team, which qualified for the Liguillas at the end of the tournament , where they conceded no goal in the quarter-finals against Atlante (0-0 and 6th) : 0) and in the semifinals against Chivas (twice 1: 0) marched through to the final. There she prevailed 1: 2 and 2: 0 afterwards against Tampico-Madero FC and won the first championship title in the club's history.

Contreras spent his last season in 1990/91 with the UAT Correcaminos .
