Robin Backhaus (born June 15, 1989 in Berlin ) is a German swimmer .

Career

Between 2002 and 2008, Backhaus won a total of 16 gold medals as well as 11 silver and four bronze medals at German class championships. At the European Summer Youth Olympic Festival 2005 in Lignano Sabbiadoro , he won gold in the 400 meter freestyle and 4 × 100 meter freestyle. At the Junior European Championships in 2007 he won silver with the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay and was fourth in the 1500 meter freestyle. He was also successful in the adult division when he won the silver medal at the 2010 European Swimming Championships in Budapest with Paul Biedermann , Tim Wallburger and Clemens Rapp . At the 2010 Military World Championships, he won gold with the long relay and silver with the sprint relay.

With fourth place at the German Championships in 2012, he qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , but was not used there. In 2013 Backhaus again secured two silver medals at the German championships, before winning his first national title in the 200 meter butterfly in 2014.

The 1.88 m tall bakery has been swimming for SG Neukölln Berlin since 1995 , he is a sports soldier.
