Robin M. Canup

Robin M. Canup (born November 20, 1968 ) is an American astrophysicist .

Life

Canup studied physics at Duke University in North Carolina and received his PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder . She moved to the Southwest Research Institute of the Department of Space Studies (SwRI) in Boulder in 1998 and was named Deputy Director in 1999. She was visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology from January to April 2005 and has been a director at SwRI since then.

Canup is concerned with the formation of planets and their satellites. She made important contributions to the origin of the earth - moon system, which contributed significantly to today's understanding of the collision theory .

In 2005 her achievements were honored with the naming (17836) Canup for the asteroid 1998 HT 50 .
