Robyn Krista Gayle (born October 31, 1985 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian former soccer player . She played for the Canadian national team in defense from 2006 to 2015 .
Career
Gayle played basketball and volleyball at St. Francis Xavier High School and ran athletics , especially individual and relay sprints.
In 2002 she won silver with the U-19s at the U-19 World Cup in 2002 , as well as at the 2003 Pan American Games . At the U-19 World Cup in 2004 , she made it to the quarter-finals with Canada.
At the age of 20, she made her first of 44 international matches against Italy on June 25, 2006 . When CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in 2006 she won silver. At the 2007 World Cup she was used in two games. In 2008 she took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing and reached the quarter-finals with Canada, in which they were again subject to the USA. In 2010 she won her first title with the national team: At the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup , the Canadians placed ahead of the USA for the first time after the USA failed in the semifinals to Mexico. Canada qualified directly for the 2011 World Cup, where they meet host Germany in the opening game . Gayle is a member of the Canadian squad for the World Cup and was substituted on in the opening game against Germany in the second half and thus for her first World Cup game. In the other group games she was no longer used and Canada was eliminated with three defeats in the preliminary round.
She was also nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games . But it was only used in the first two games.
From 2013 to 2014 she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football, for Washington Spirit .
The following year she was appointed to the squad for the World Cup in her own country , but was not used there.
