Rocco Bonzanigo

Rocco Bonzanigo (born July 6, 1809 in Bellinzona ; † October 31, 1881 there ) was a Swiss politician . From 1851 to 1854 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a wealthy landowner studied law at the University of Parma , from 1832 he worked as a lawyer . He also ran a silk spinning mill in Bellinzona with his brother from 1840. Bonzanigo was considered a moderate liberal and was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino in 1839 , which he chaired in 1851. From 1850 to 1854 he also served as mayor of Bellinzona.

Bonzanigo ran in the National Council elections in 1851 and was elected in the constituency of Ticino-North . With the support of the Catholic Conservatives, he was re-elected in October 1854, but the radical liberals contested the result and used legal means to force a re-election. This took place in March 1855 and Bonzanigo was voted out of office. He also lost his seat on the Grand Council, but moved back into the cantonal parliament in 1859 and was a member of it until 1867. From 1862 until his death he was a member of the board of directors of the Tessiner Kantonalbank , from 1877 its president.
