Rochuskapelle or Wutzelburg in Mannersdorf an der March

The Rochus Chapel on the Rochusberg near Mannersdorf an der March (also called Wutzelburg because of its round shape ) is a listed building in Lower Austria .

history

The construction of the chapel goes back to a vow made by Rudolf von Teuffenbach between 1622 and 1634. His experiences with the plague , which he made as a general during the Thirty Years' War , are cited as the occasion .

On July 29, 1637, Rudolf von Teuffenbach sought consensus from the Bishop of Passau for the property he owned on his own property between Stillfried and Angern an der March. Subsequently, he also agreed to endow and maintain the chapel from his own resources. On July 3, 1647 he finally asked the official in Passau to parish and inaugurate the chapel, which was completed except for the curtain wall, in Ebenthal .

The curtain wall surrounding the chapel was still not erected in 1652, as the builder added his own provision on building materials and money in his will of December 26, 1652.

It is not known when the Rochus Chapel was consecrated or completed.

Around 1680 there was a dispute between Baron Bernhard von Fünfkirchen and his caretaker as well as the pastor of Ebenthal about the whereabouts of the collected sacrifices, which dragged on for years, allegedly also degenerated into fights and in which the emperor and the apostolic nuncio were also drawn. On August 11, 1696, a comparison finally took place in Vienna between Bernhard von Fünfkirchen and the Passau Officials.

From 1722 the Rochus Chapel was owned by the Kinsky family , who purchased altarpieces for the altars and financed a renovation in 1840. The original baroque dome was replaced by a conical roof.

In the course of another renovation commissioned by Count Christian Kinsky in 1886 , the roof of the chapel was given a new, lantern-like structure.

In 1928 Wilhelm Löw, owner of the Angern estate, donated the Rochus Chapel to the Mannersdorf an der March community. In the same year, the now heavily neglected chapel was repaired with the assistance of the Monument Office and the domed roof was restored. The work lasted until 1931.

The Rochus Chapel was restored again in 1976/1977.
