life and work

The date of birth of Wolfgang Adam Knoll is not known, his baptism was on October 20, 1709. He learned from his father. In 1735 he married Maria Barbara († September 9, 1793), daughter of the mayor and tax collector Haß. The godfather of the son Johann Christian Knoll was Superintendent Johann Christian Seidel in 1738 .

His works are reminiscent of Bayreuth artists in their figurative representations and ornaments. However, he stuck to a heavy baroque style even after it was out of fashion. He developed different versions of pulpit altars . They were created in 1742 for Marlesreuth , 1743 for Regnitzlosau , 1744 for Wirsberg , 1748 for Trogen , 1754 for Kirchgattendorf and 1768 for Geroldsgrün . His other works also included organ cases and baptismal angels , e.g. B. the now no longer preserved baptismal angel from Leupoldsgrün , the second baptismal angel from Köditz and several objects in Berg .

After his son Johann Christian Knoll (1738–1825) got a job with the city of Hof, the family tradition of wood carvers ended .
