Profile in the BoxRec database |
Rocky Graziano (born January 1, 1919 in New York City , New York as Thomas Rocco Barbella, † May 22, 1990 ibid) was an American boxer of Italian origin.
Graziano won in 1947 in a fight against Tony Zale , who had defended his title against him in 1946, the middleweight championship. On 10 June 1948, however, he lost that title back, also against Tony Zale, of him in the third round knockout. Struck.
On April 16, 1952, he was sent in a fight for the middleweight title by Sugar Ray Robinson in the 3rd round on the boards. However, Sugar Ray later admitted in a comment: "No one ever hit me harder than Rocky (Graziano)."
The Ring Magazine certified that he had a big fighter heart ("ons of heart"), but also suspected contacts to the boxing mafia ("well protected and connected"). In his 83 professional fights, he won 52 times by knockout. In 1991 Graziano was accepted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
Trivia
