Rodolfo Arotxarena (born September 7, 1958 in Montevideo ), known by his signature Arotxa , is a Uruguayan draftsman and caricaturist .

Depending on the sources, he began as a draftsman for the El País newspaper in Montevideo in 1975 or 1976 . Since then he has been working as a cartoonist and is best known for his often poignant political cartoons. He has drawn numerous Uruguayan and international personalities. He also worked for the newspapers Mundocolor , Noticias , Correo de los Viernes and Búsqueda . In 1979 he was invited to the Federal Republic of Germany together with other Latin American illustrators.

In 1983 he traveled to the United States, where he published his works in various Minnesota newspapers , was part of the Partners of the America program and became a member of the New York cartoonist and writers Sindicate .

His biggest caricature is the 26-meter-high "Gardelazo" created in honor of the tango singer Carlos Gardel on the approach to Tacuarembó .

Arotxa has also drawn attention to himself as a painter and his oil-painted series “Caudillos” was widely acclaimed.

Since 1977 he has carried out various exhibitions both nationally and internationally. In 1995 he also took part in the collective exhibition in honor of Carlos Gardel , organized by the Intendencia Municipal of Montevideo .
