Rodrigo Costa (born July 30, 1975 in Laranjal Paulista , Brazil ; full name Rodrigo Barbosa Rodrigues Costa ) is a former Brazilian football player .

Career

Rodrigo Costa was a headed central defender. In his youth he played with EC XV de Novembro Piracicaba . He then worked in Portugal for CS Marítimo and for a long time in Brazil for the clubs SE Palmeiras , Guarani FC , EC Juventude , Grêmio Porto Alegre and FC Santos . He played a total of 160 games in the Série A and scored 4 goals.

In 2002 he moved to TSV 1860 Munich in the 1st Bundesliga , where he quickly became a regular player. In the second season after the move, he only missed four games and even after relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga he was only unable to play in three games in the 2004/2005 season due to suspensions. In the relegation season 2003/2004, the rare striker hit the goal twice against Hertha Berlin . In the first leg, however, it was their own network. Although he was able to make up for the slip in the second leg with the 1-0 lead, it was no longer enough to keep the league: the game ended 1: 1 as in the first half of the season. During his time at 1860, he received a total of 34 yellow cards, an average of one in almost every third game, as well as two yellow-reds and one red card. His contract ran until 2008, but was terminated without notice on April 26, 2006 by the association. Costa previously stated that he would no longer play a game under coach Walter Schachner . Later, it was agreed to terminate the contract, which ran until 2008, in return for a severance payment.

The player moved to Standard Liège in the Belgian First Division , where he signed a two-year contract. However, he was unable to assert himself here and the contract was terminated amicably after a month. After an interlude at the Paraguayan football club Cerro Porteño , where he was also used in the Copa Libertadores , Costa played for a month for the Greek first division club Veria FC and then worked for CA Metropolitano before the contract was terminated. Costa returned to his family in Rio de Janeiro.
