Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo

Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo (born September 2, 1942 in Cali ; † February 4, 2000 ibid) was a Colombian politician .

The son of newspaper publisher and politician Álvaro Lloreda Caicedo attended the Colegio Berchmans in his hometown , as well as schools in Switzerland and the USA and studied law at the Universidad Javeriana . Between 1974 and 1990 he was a member of the Senate of the Republic of Colombia , the Directorio Nacional Conservador and the Centro de Estudios Colombianos .

Under President Julio César Turbay Ayala he was Minister of Education from 1978 to 1980, and under Belisario Betancur Cuartas from 1982 to 1984 Foreign Minister. In 1984 he was elected Designado Presidencial and became Colombian Ambassador to the United States. He held both functions until 1986. In 1990 he took part in the presidential elections as a candidate for the Partido Social Conservador . After the hoped-for success did not materialize, he withdrew from politics and devoted himself to the management of the newspaper El País .

After Andrés Pastrana Arango was elected President in 1998, he returned to politics and became Minister of Defense. In the following year, however, he resigned and withdrew from public life. In 2000 he died of cancer. His son Francisco José Lloreda Mera was also active as a politician.
