Roelof Theodorus Overakker

Roelof Theodorus Overakker (born January 9, 1890 in Haarlem , Netherlands , † January 9, 1945 in Fort de Kock, Bukittinggi , Sumatra ) was a Dutch major general of the infantry . From July 20, 1912 he served in a unit of the Koninklijk Nederlandsch-Indisch Leger .

On February 9, 1942, Overakker was appointed Territorial Commander of Central Sumatra. During the Japanese conquest of Sumatra from mid-February to the end of March 1942, he and his units had to retreat to Kutatjane in North Sumatra . There he surrendered to the Japanese on March 28 with 2000 men . Overacker was shot in captivity in Fort de Kock in January 1945.

In November 1947 he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Cross and on July 25, 1952 the Military Willems Order, knight of the 4th class .
