Roger (joinville)
Roger (* before 1096; † between 1124 and 1132) was Lord of Joinville .
Life
Roger was the son of Gottfried II. Lord of Joinville, Count of Joigny and the Hoderine of Courtenay. When his father died around 1096, Roger inherited the paternal rule of Joinville, while his brother Rainald received the county of Joigny.
He took the post of secretary at the court of the Counts of Champagne . For them he brokered and signed agreements with their vassals. In particular, he settled the dispute between Count Arnold von Reynel and the Abbey of Montier-en-Der , whose villages were sacked by that Count. Ironically, the monks of this and other abbeys had to endure the occasional blackmail and raid from Roger himself. Only after he was threatened with excommunication (like his ancestors) did he return the stolen goods.
Marriage and offspring
Roger was married to Adelheid (Adelaide), sister of Guido von Vignory . His children were:
- Gottfried III. , Lord of Joinville
- Robert († 1178)
- Guido , Bishop of Châlons († 1190)
- Adelheid, Abbess of Avenai
- Wilhelm, friar
- Beatrix ∞ Heinrich, Count of Grandpré
