Roger Delcroix

Roger Delcroix (born August 19, 1928 in Chercq , Tournai , † October 7, 2010 ) was a Belgian politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS) .

biography

Delcroix, whose parents ran the Maison du Peuple in Chercq , joined the General Trade Union Confederation (FGTB / ABVV) after Belgium was liberated from the German occupation forces and worked there as a trade union official. First he was President of the Public Service Union ( Centrale Générale des Services Publics ) in Tournai, before becoming President of the FGTB's local association Tournai - Ath - Lessines .

In 1976 he was elected as a candidate of the Socialist Party to be a member of the Tournai Town Council and after the reorganization of the town in 1977 he took over the office of aldermen for finance, tourism and events. Later he was President of the Intermunicipal Gas and Electricity Company for East Hainaut (IGEHO).

Between 1981 and 1986 he was also a member of the Senate as a representative of the socialists .

On August 28, 1992, he succeeded Raoul Van Spitael as mayor of Tournai and held this post after his re-election in October 1994 until he was replaced by Christian Massy in December 2000. Because of his special activities and his commitment to tourism in Tournai, he was nicknamed "Monsieur Tourisme".
