Roger Finjord (born October 8, 1972 ) is a Norwegian football coach. From 2015 to 2016 he was the head coach of the Norwegian national soccer team , of which he was previously an assistant coach. As a club coach, he led Stabæk Fotball to the Norwegian championship title in 2010.

Career

Finjord became the coach of the Stabæk FK women's team in December 2009 . In its first season, he led the club to the championship in 2010. Stabæk was thus qualified for the first round of the 2011/12 UEFA Women's Champions League , but failed after a 1-0 home win by a 1: 4 in the second leg at the eventual finalists 1. FFC Frankfurt . In 2012 he became a member of the coaching staff of the Norwegian women's national team and from 2013 was assistant coach of Even Pellerud , who had become Norwegian women's national coach for the second time in December. After the Norwegians failed in the round of 16 at the 2015 World Cup to England and thus missed the direct qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games , Pellerud resigned and Finjord became his successor. In the first international match under his leadership on September 17, 2015, Finjord relied on the players already used under Pellerud, only June Renate Pedersen came on for her international debut in the second half. The first four games, including two in qualifying for the 2017 European Championship , were won without conceding a goal (3 × 4: 0 and 1 × 6: 0), but the Norwegians only finished in the qualifying tournament for the last European starting place at the Olympic Games last place. However, on June 7, 2016, his team was able to qualify for the 2017 European Championship ahead of schedule . After the end of the qualification, he announced that he had other priorities and did not want to extend his contract.
